Wakeboarding Highlights

Wakeboarding has officially started in Egypt back in 2000. The very first official international world championship was held back in 2004 by The International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF). The Egyptian Sailing and Waterski Federation (ESWF) was always the leading team in the region, taking the podium in the Middle East and African region.

ESWF had a full focus on the technical team behind the sport’s coaches and judges which are all IWWF certified. It is also working on expanding the rider base even with the economic challenges encountered.

The job doesn’t only stop here, ESWF worked closely with the wakeboarding community and market to deliver the 2021 Wakeboard Nationals held at the ESWF headquarters in Cairo. The event was sponsored by Vodafone, powered by Xwake Egypt, and supported by the local wakeboarding brands Slingshot, Hyperlite, Liquid Force, Octopus, and more.

The 2021 nationals had several categories with 40 national riders participating. Here is the list of the winners.

• Open men— won by Mourad Imam
• Pro men— won by Seif Darwish
• Open women— won by Dalal Djati
• Under 14— won by Hassan Osman
• Under 10— won by Hamza Youssef

The wakeboard industry has definitely taken a big leap and will continue to grow during the next years. ESWF chairman, Amr Abou El Saoud, stated that the ESWF will start a national tour covering most of the country; North Coast, Sharm El Sheikh, The Red Sea Governorate, and the Nile as a final stop, with the hope to shed more spotlight on the sport and the local communities engaged.
