World’s top 5 male golfers as of October 2022


1. Scottie Scheffler

Country: United States of America

Average Points: 9.325

Scott Alexander Scheffler, born on June 21, 1996, is a PGA Tour professional golfer from the United States. He is ranked the world’s number one in the Official World Golf Ranking as of August 2022, in addition to also winning the Masters Tournament in 2022.


2. Rory McIlroy


Country: European Tour

Average Points: 8.867

Rory Daniel McIlroy MBE, born on 4 May 1989, is a Northern Irish professional golfer who competes on both the European and PGA Tours. He is a former world number one in the Official World Golf Ranking, having held that position for more than 100 weeks during his career. He has four major titles, including the 2011 U.S. Open, the 2012 PGA Championship, the 2014 Open Championship, and the 2014 PGA Championship. He is one of three players, along with Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, to have won four majors by the age of 25.


3. Cameron Smith


Country: Australia

Average Points: 8.770

Born on 18 August 1993, the Australian professional golfer won the 2022 Open Championship and has won five other tournaments on the PGA Tour, including the 2022 Players Championship. Smith won his first major event in July 2022 at the 150th Open Championship, which was held on the Old Course in St Andrews. He fired a final-round 64 to finish one shot ahead of Cameron Young and two strokes ahead of joint third-round leader Rory McIlroy.


4. Patrick Cantlay 


Country: United States of America

Average Points: 8.141

Patrick Cantlay, an American professional golfer, was born on March 17, 1992. He enjoyed a prosperous amateur career and held the top spot for 55 weeks in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He has won the 2021 FedEx Cup as well as eight times on the PGA Tour. He is also a member of the 2022 class of the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame.


5. Xander Schauffele


Country: United States of America

Average Points: 7.187

American golfer Alexander Victor Schauffele competes on the PGA Tour and has won seven times since turning pro in 2015. In a tie for second place at the 2018 Open Championship and the 2019 Masters, Schauffele achieved his greatest major performance. The European Tour has seen success for Schauffele as well. At the men's individual golf competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics, Schauffele took home the Olympic gold medal.

  1. Ko Jin-young 

Country: South Korea

Average Points: 7.911

Ko Jin-young is a South Korean professional golfer born on July 7, 1995, consistently competing in the LPGA Tour. She had placed second in the 2015 Ricoh Women's British Open at the age of 22, won the 2017 LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship, and had won 10 times on the LPGA of Korea Tour by that time. She joined the LPGA Tour for the 2018 season and won her inaugural competition, the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open, in February and is deemed to be only the second player in LPGA history to accomplish this feat. In 2021, Ko again won the official money title and the LPGA Player of the Year.


2. Atthaya Thitikul


Country: Thailand

Average Points: 7.477

She is the youngest golfer in history to win a professional competition, having won the Ladies European Thailand Championship as a novice in 2017. She was the world's top-ranked women's amateur golfer for a total of 12 weeks, reaching the top on two occasions, the first on June 26, 2019. Thitikul won the JTBC Classic for the first time on the LPGA Tour on March 27, 2022. Thitikul has two professional LPGA Tour wins and four Ladies European Tour titles while still 19 years old in 2022. The young athlete was rated second in the Women's World Golf Rankings by October 2022 and was considered golf's fastest-emerging star.


3. Nelly Korda


Country: United States of America

Average Points: 7.137

Nelly Korda, an American professional golfer, was born on July 28, 1998. She competes on the LPGA Tour, where she has won seven times and climbed all the way to the top of the Women's World Golf Rankings. At the women's individual golf competition of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, Korda won the Olympic gold medal. She represented the United States at the 2019 Solheim Cup and the 2021 Solheim Cup alongside her sister Jessica Korda.


4. Minjee Lee


Country: Australia

Average Points: 6.997

Minjee Lee, an Australian professional golfer from Perth, was born on May 27, 1996. After winning the Oates Victorian Open in February 2014, she rose to the top of the rankings among amateur golfers, holding that position until she turned pro in September of the same year. Lee won the Amundi Evian Championship, her first major title, on July 25, 2021. She won the U.S. Women's Open, her second major title, on June 5, 2022.


5. Lydia Ko 


Country: New Zealand

Average Points: 6.626

Lydia Ko MNZM (born 24 April 1997) is a professional golfer from New Zealand. She was the youngest player of either gender to be rated No. 1 in professional golf when she reached the top spot in February 2015, at the young age of 17 years. She became the youngest woman to win a major title when she won The Evian Championship in France on September 13, 2015, at the age of 18 years. Her final round of 63 set a record for the lowest final round in the history of women's golf majors, but she broke it with a 62 at the 2021 ANA Inspiration. She had previously won the ANA Inspiration on 3 April 2016 for her second consecutive major victory, becoming the youngest player in history to do so.
